The Ultimate Ride
Have you always dreamed of day cruising through the French countryside on a 1940s-style randonneur with rounded fenders and a picnic basket? Johnny Coast can make that fantasy a reality, even if you are just making a run to Fairway Mr. Coast, a third-generation craftsman, will spend as many as 60 hours in his one-man shop to build a bike that fits your riding style, body dimensions and purpose. After a custom fitting, he will spend those hours adding top-of-the-line details like lug sets by Sachs, Henry James or Pacenti or creating a hand-built silver-brazed frame. He will even work with you to fit vintage new-old stock parts from France. “That’s where your workmanship shines, in the details,” he said. The base price for one of his pieces is $2,050. You can start the process today, but it will take seven to eight months to get your bike.
